THE MILK RIDE

EATING LUNCH AT THE t’MELKHUISJE WITH ROB

As is tradition, the whole group cycled along the Kanaldijk waterway to our refreshing destination, the landscape slowly transforming from industrial city to forest and farmland. 2007 Field School alumni Rob Innes joined us for the ride.

Far to the east of Eindhoven is a small, family owned fruit and dairy farm in Helmond called ‘t Melkhuisje.

The milk house has been in operation since 2008, providing fresh from the cow milk to cyclists riding by. The milk dispensor inside offers cold, refreshing milk at €0.10 per cup. Even the lactose intolerant among us couldn not say no to a cup or bowl full as we tucked into lunch at a nearby picnic area.

VAN GOGH’s WATERMILL

The farm’s chickens kept us company, until we rode back toward town, stopping only to see Van Gogh’s famous watermill in Neunen — which he painted in May 1884 and is still standing along the Kleine Dommel river.

Eindhoven is the city where we do most of our work editing videos, backing up files, and transcribing interviews while in-field. The milk house ride was one of the few opportunities we had to get out and enjoy the areas outside of the city centre before returning to the grind.
